After arriving in Newark NJ we flew non-stop to Japan over the top of the world, which we could see was completely frozen.

Continental Airlines Flight 3096 to Newark, New Jersey
Departure Time 8:30am - Pittsburgh Airport
Friday, March 22, 2002

Our team took up most of the small airbus we flew to Newark. It was so small that our carry-ons didn't fit in the overhead compartments. The flight attendants took our bags and they had to be loaded in the regular baggage section. This was my first airplane ride ever and I was very excited. Before we took off from Pittsburgh, I set my watch 14 hours ahead to Tokyo time. Our flight was rather short but very bumpy. We arrived in Newark, New Jersey, at 9:15 a.m. We picked up our bags and went to our gate to wait for the flight to Japan.

Continental Airlines Flight 9 to Narita Airport, Tokyo, Japan
Departure Time 11:45am - Newark, New Jersey
Friday, March 22, 2002

We boarded a huge Boeing 772. We had our own video screens, head phones, pillows and blankets. We flew out of Newark right over New York City and saw the Statue of Liberty below. I took a picture out of the window of New York. What a big city! The flight was very long and boring. I slept a little, watched the same snowboarding movie Out Cold 4 times and played Gameboy. We saw Alaska out of the window and flew over the Bering Straight! We flew over a lot of ocean and it never got dark. Everyone was relieved to hear the "Prepare for Landing" announcement. Nearly 14 really boring hours later, we landed at Tokyo Narita Airport. Some of our team got motion sickness and threw up. We exchanged money, watched a little sumo on TV, picked up our luggage and headed for our bus.
